Automated Script Receives 14 Peer Kudos for Work Actually Finished by Panicked Senior Specialist Labels
Automated claims-processing script Kevin received 14 peer-recognition awards Thursday after HIMstrata successfully submitted 8,500 overdue commercial claims before its monthly processing deadline.
The achievement was particularly significant for Senior Claims Resolution Specialist Naomi Reyes, who had spent much of the preceding evening correcting the batch after Kevin stopped processing it.
"I was relieved we got it out," Reyes said. "I wasn't expecting all the congratulations to go to Kevin."
The trouble began when an incorrect processing rule caused several thousand claims to fail validation. Kevin continued attempting to process the affected records until the remaining files accumulated in an exception queue.
Reyes identified the issue during a routine review.
Over the next several hours, she corrected the affected claim information, coordinated with Developer Marcus Lee, and worked through the remaining exceptions so the batch could be submitted before midnight.
The final files were transmitted with two minutes to spare.
By morning, Kevin's employee profile had accumulated 14 recognition messages.
"Outstanding teamwork under pressure."
"Always willing to go the extra mile."
"Couldn't have done it without you."
The messages were generated after the company's recognition system identified Kevin as the primary processor associated with the completed claims.
Billing Supervisor Greg Pendergast congratulated the team during the morning meeting, specifically thanking Reyes for staying late.
He also praised Kevin's exceptional contribution to the deadline.
"Naomi did fantastic work, and Kevin's processing volume was obviously an important part of the overall result," Pendergast said.
Reyes noted that Kevin had been in an error state for most of the evening.
"Right, but he was still the assigned processor," Pendergast explained.
Kevin received 500 points through the employee recognition portal, enough to redeem a company fleece or stainless-steel travel mug.
Marcus confirmed that the program could neither access the portal nor redeem the points.
Human Resources considered transferring them to Reyes but discovered that reward balances could not be moved between employee accounts.
The department thanked her for understanding.
Reyes returned to her normal work the following morning. Several colleagues brought her coffee, and Dana Mitchell left a handwritten note on her desk thanking her for saving the deadline.
Reyes kept the note.
Kevin's fifteenth nomination arrived shortly before lunch, recognizing his ability to inspire outstanding teamwork in others.
