Some of the most interesting things I've learned in healthcare revenue cycle started with a question that seemed simple enough. A payment didn't post as expected, an adjustment didn't quite make sense, or I came across a process I wasn't familiar with. Before long, I was researching something entirely different from what I'd originally set out to understand.
I enjoy that part of the work. There's always something new to discover, and even familiar processes can become surprisingly interesting when you start looking at how everything connects.
Finding a good explanation, however, can be an adventure of its own.
Healthcare revenue cycle information is scattered across manuals, payer policies, professional resources, and plenty of places you wouldn't necessarily think to look. Sometimes the answer is right there, provided you already know exactly what you're looking for. Other times, an explanation raises enough additional questions to leave you thoroughly perplexed.
Revenue Cycle Uncovered grew from that combination of curiosity and frustration. I wanted a place to bring useful information together, explore subjects that caught my attention, and share what I learned along the way. Something organized, approachable, and freely available, with enough depth to be useful without making the learning process more complicated than it needs to be.
The Foundational Guides explore the departments, terminology, and workflows that make up the revenue cycle, with explanations and reliable references for further learning.
Specialized Topics & Deep Dives take a closer look at the details. That might involve an unusual adjustment, a coding rule, a particular technology, or an improvement worth understanding. Some questions lead to investigations, others to interesting discoveries, and occasionally the answer is that there's still more to find out.
There are also Practical Resources, including references, worksheets, spreadsheets, and downloadable materials designed around useful tasks and learning needs.
And because this industry has its share of wonderfully absurd moments, the Creative Corner makes room for satire, fictional office correspondence, puzzles, and other activities. Even revenue cycle deserves a little fun.

My interests have always extended beyond the work directly in front of me. Understanding a transaction often means understanding what happened elsewhere, and following those connections has introduced me to parts of the industry I might never have explored otherwise.
I'm still learning, and I imagine I always will be. That's part of what makes this enjoyable. Revenue Cycle Uncovered gives me somewhere to organize that research, share useful discoveries, and spend a little more time with the questions that deserve it.
I made this space because I wanted somewhere to keep exploring, writing, and creating. The subjects won't always follow a tidy path, and they don't need to. If something here answers a question, gives you an idea, or just makes you laugh, I'm glad you found it.
Whether you're new to the field or have years of experience, I hope you'll find something here that answers a question, introduces a useful resource, or sparks a little curiosity of your own.
